Hi, I'm new to this website because I'm trying to convince my father to let me get a chicken,my mom is already on board... I would raise it until it needed to be outside, then I would give it to my grandmother. I'm most likely going to put it in a bird cage. Any chick care tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated. I live in California so it is warm, idk if that will affect the chick. Please help!

I'd get a less social creature for a pet. Chickens aren't like dogs; they really should have other chickens. If you want to raise chickens in a bird cage, I suggest an Old English Game Bantam or smaller breed, and at least a pair. Some people do raise Serama bantams in bird cages. Again, usually in pairs.

Chickens need to be kept in pairs. A single one will be very lonely. For raising you could build a small cute coop.

Welcome to BYC! As mentioned above, I think another bird might be better. Maybe look into budgies, canaries or even parrots, who can live inside and you might be able to keep for awhile.
