Hunter is my 6 month old Shiatsu , I also have 19 full grown chickens of different varieties and I just recently hatched for the first time 12 chicks. Though I have had raised chickens off and on over the past 10 years this is the first time I have ever had a broody chicken. So I was delighted that an Ameraucan was the brooder! Out of 17 girls I was surprised that only one brooded! two others tried but they get bored easily and leave. Any way I do have a question. Two of my eggs keep getting a dark sticky substance on the outside of the shell. I don't see any cracks and the eggs still float. Are the chicks inside still alive or no?
Another question is that I have another egg that also floats but is now 11 days over due, is this a vial chick and should I keep it in the incubator?
