Welcome to BYC. I'm glad the website has been useful to you so far, and I hope it continues to be so. Boschvelders look like a cool breed. I'd never heard of them before. As far as the broody silkie goes, 5 months is very early for that. If she is healthy and vigorous, and is close to adult size, I think it will be okay. If not, maybe you could slip her eggs under another hen and try to break her of her broodiness.

As you already know, chicken watching is a wonderfully entertaining hobby. I just suggested yesterday that we get rid of our DISH subscription and just sit on the deck and let the poultry amuse us (Okay, I was kidding because winter in Iowa is not amusing no matter who or what is in your yard).
