Hi, i have 4 ( shipped) gosling eggs hatching as i type.. im a little worried as they seem to be stuck. I think the humidity has been up & down and they seem stuck in their shells by the really sticky membrane. 3 are pipped and ive been keeping an eye on them though the 'window' but ive just opened it to have a look and the membrane is like drying into a really hard crust. Do they have a chance ? Its my first time hatching goslings..

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I've not incubated geese eggs but as with all incubation high humidity is required during the lock down stage for hatch. You say your humidity has been up and down to what degree? Do you have a hygrometer? You need to create as much surface area of water as you possibly can if you think they are drying out. When you have looked was it just round the pip hole that they were looking dry? Often the small amount of membrane exposed by the pip hole can look dry but under the shell it is ok. Try to get your humidity up and not open the incubator, each time you open it risks them shrink wrapping. Please do drop by the geese section for more help with your eggs. Good luck I really hope they hatch ok for you :frow

Goslings and other waterfowl eggs need more humidity than other types of poultry when incubating eggs. 60%-70% during incubation, increased to 70%-80% during hatching. If the gosling is sticking to the shell, that usually means that the eggs haven't been turned (they should until the last three days of incubation), and the embryo sticks to the shell membrane.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock!

Thanks everyone for your replies. They have been turned 3 times a day until 3 days ago. What i didn't mention is i hatched call ducks with them and they ( well it ) hatched on Tuesday.i have a humidity thingy in there and i have struggled the whole time to keep in above 57%. Its a brinsea hatchmaker. I currently have 1 dead gosling & 2 almoat out and alive atm. The last egg is rocking.

I amm now the proud owner of 2 baby goslings !!
