We planted our winter garden for the ducks since the only thing in there we'd eat was the broccoli and cabbage. Cabbage isn't ready yet and we didn't get much broccoli.
Ducks didn't touch a thing from the garden either! Picky buggers.
I went though a 50 pound bag of feed every 2 months or so with 3 runners. They were in the yard all day and in their house at night.
I started with a dog house kit from Lowe's for the 3 girls and then upgraded when I added a couple more.
I use pine straw as bedding - free as we live on 6 acres of pine trees.
We got a lot of veggies for cheap that are packaged by the market for quick sale. And they eat lots of our garden stuff that we don't get to eat so to the ducks it goes.
I hose out their house daily and change out their bedding every few weeks (bedding goes in big bins and the other half of the house is empty).
I feed them daily (or dh does), water changed.
They don't require lots of daily time, but I find myself just sitting and watching them on weekends.
