Hi I'm New!

Are you referring to the FWS permit (FEDERAL MIGRATORY BIRD WATERFOWL SALE AND DISPOSAL PERMIT) or is it something for state? As far as federal goes i know that as long as there 3 generations from the wild (i know, how are they supposed to figure that out) you don't have to have one. Kiery1105 So i'm pretty sure as long as you went and ordered domesticated mallards from a hatchery like metzer or got them from you tractor supply store, local breeder, etc. you should be fine because then there no longer considered a migratory bird. (besides the fact that my friends and I's mallards are fat enough they can't even fly

I think its great having that many breeds, but...just 1 Welsh Harlequin! I have a bad drake to hen ratio, but they arent even at that age yet, so i either need to get more females or get rid of some males

i think the best ratio would be 5 hens to 1 drake, just because its above the minimum and below the mark where fertility starts to deminish..good luck with your flock!

Thank you everyone for the helpful commentary! I'm looking for egg layers as well as family pets, as the eggs would mostly be for the family. I am looking for very friendly breeds with pretty colors as well. I was thinking between two and three drakes, and having a mallard as one of them. Could he breed successfully with the larger breeds? Dawn- I am in MD and would love to come by in the spring and take either a blue swedish or a runner duckling off your hands! I am looking for a large variety. I have sort of a rough plan for a coop and run, but nothing set in stone. I am probably going to be building a concrete pond for them. How do you all have your housing situation set up? Any recommendations?
