I am a backyard farmer who lives in beautiful North Idaho. We have a small chicken coop next to our backyard garden where we grow tomatoes, peppers, kale, peas and some other veggies. I just started visiting this site last week and found information on several breeds I was curious about. I decided I ought to make an account so I could answer questions and ask some of my own, as I am by no means a poultry expert. On that note I have had chickens for almost five years now. The breeds we have dealt with thus far have been Buff Orpington, Barred and Partridge Rock, Sliver Laced Wyandotte, Deleware, Bantam Deleware, Bantam Seabright, Red Star, and Australorp. I am interested in Barnevelders and Rhode Island White.

Anyway, I'd just like to say hi and I hope we can share our poultry knowledge and experiences with each other.

Glad to have you join the flock. I didn't know there were Rhode Island whites, till you mentioned it. I learn something new here every single day. You are most welcome.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a nice mix of breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Red Star is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links and they are egg laying machines. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your Barnevelders and Rhode Island Whites.

Good morning, welcome to BYC!

You've had some nice breeds in the past. It is fun to see the differences in them, that's why I like having a mixed flock. Barnevelders are one on my 'wish list' too.

Feel free to jump in asking/answering questions, posting photos, etc. This is a friendly place with a lot of knowledgeable members. If you would like to connect with other members in Idaho, you can find them here:

It's nice to have you here!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sounds like you have a lovely flock. Those are all great breeds! I've raised buff orpingtons and silver sebrights too. I've always wanted to raise wyandottes, australorps, delawares and barnevelders. Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours.
