I have 6 pet chickens that I absolutely love and adore. They run around my house wearing diapers and are spoiled. They do the most adorable things and even make noises that mimic the human language. They know commands like up up, stay stay, no, down down, no bullying, be nice, and so on. They listen quite well and stay off of the kitchen countertops and any other surfaces they should avoid. They live with three ex-feral cats peacefully. The cats are intimidated by the birdies more than the dog. Three types of predators on predators living peacefully. I am super proud of my babies and have joined this site because I need assistance taking care of their health. I used to own 9 chickens but 3 died. 1 died of Heatstroke and she had wry neck plus signs of mericks disease, 1 was horribly killed by a hawk in front of others who became traumatized by it, and 1 died of malnutrition because of thrush preventing food going down Nystatin didn't seem to help even though it was not a serious case. So I have joined this site to have some questions answered. I live in an area with little to no health care help for chickens. Most of the people out here treat them like livestock. Sick. Cull. Bad egg production. Cull. It sucks.

:welcome :frow Everyone is different and also their ways of raising their birds. I raise birds to show at poultry shows. I do sell some of the birds but I hatch out a few hundred chicks every year and can't keep them all and around half of the hatches are males. I pick out the best males as future breeders. My females go into general population coops and pens and I sell their eggs. I have had special birds. My oldest hen recently passed but she had issues. She was 8 years old. Good luck with your birds and have fun...

I also have a post about Luna with pictures of her toe. If anyone knows anything about it can you please have a look? I don't know how to get you there because I am new. And thanks. The picture up top is Ray Ray. She is one of the 6 that are living. She's also developed spurs.
