I have 4 16 week old chickens. Two Golden Comets and two RI Reds....my Comet "Bossy" laid an egg yesterday and one today. When I put my hand out to pet her she gets into a "submissive" position and allows me to stroke her. They have an awesome diet of "chicken feed", fresh greens (Collard, Kale, Mustarf), fresh corn on the cob, bread, dried worms, and all the lizards, snakes and toads they can catch...and they "free-range" for about 6 hours a day, have a roomy coop and run, and eat bugs and foliage in my yard. I can only believe that the combination of diet, affection, and free-ranging made her lay so early. The eggs are small but cute!
