Thanks!

I miss my beautiful Silkies.

If you are looking for Acceptional Show Silkies You can not go wrong with SunShine Silkies! Here is a photo of my Splash Pullet 5 months old, her second time in the show ring with a RB. Frist time out was a RV. So with age she is improving. I also have a splash Roo from Sunshine too. Her prices are very reasonable! From what I see of your Roo and Hen they look like they may have been Hatchery birds.

You have come to the best possible place to learn all about silkies. So many people here love the breed and are working hard to improve it and get new colors accepted and produced (which takes a lot of work and even more luck I hear) I have been studying and learning for about 2 years now and have a small flock that makes me smile every time I see them. I am grateful for the kindness and helpfulness of so many people on BYC who have helped me along in this addiction......er, ADVENTURE! My advice to you is...keep reading, keep asking questions, keep learning and you will accomplish your goals.

very pretty bird..

and yes mine came from Efowl.com they were a gift from my hubby.. I bought 6+ splashed hatching eggs from CJ Silkies.. i'm excited to get them.. I hope they all hatch.. my incubator is coming on wed . too.. I bought a nice new brinsea incubator.. since the one i'm borrowing is kinda funky.. so i'm not sure if all the eggs in there are going to hatch or not.. but I guess I will see..

I will contact her in a few weeks have to get more money first.. try to get a good set of chicks going before the first snow hits here in CO.. i'm nearly done with my coop too..just need to get more mesh and staples to attach it to the wood frame, and get my tarp on it to protect the birds from the wind and elements.. my goal is to buy a few new coops next year..but right now.. my hubby is all about rebuilding.. *sigh*

oo and another stupid questions

Mulberry its more purple then red right??? kinda like a bruise in color..(eg. plum??) ? hard to tell in the pictures..

Your silkie pullet may turn out to be a good incubator and hatch some SQ eggs for you. Follow the advice above and get the best ones you can. Now that you have an incubator you can have as many as you'll want once you get a breeding pair. Don't be afraid to take them to the local fair. Just practice good bio security. The worst thing that can happen is you'll lose. You could win and that would be great. You may also draw some interest in the breed from those that may have never seen a silkie and you may find customers for some chicks later on. As far as selling yours as pets thats fine but I wouldn't let them chase bugs anywhere they can get into trouble with predators. Obstructed eyesight and not being able to fly equals easy meals for predators.

I think I may keep the pullet, I looked at her today and she has all the standards I read, she does have feathered legs, I just never really gave the poor bird that much notice..LOL her toe spacing is great, and granted she doesn't have much of a crest on her head, I'm taking into account its because she is still under a year old..
smile.png
depending on how long it takes for the crest to get big and etc.

the roo on the other hand, i'm selling him because he does have too many faults and I don't think it will do me any good cross -breeding him with her.. he doesn't have the turquoise ear lobes..those are actually white.. he is a little more red then mulberry in the face.. he doesn't have much of a crest either..and again he is under a year.but from what I looked at for him, it doesn't look like its coming in thick either..
hmm.png

so I'll sell him and buy a new roo for my pullet.. she is un-bearded..so if bred to a bearded bird.. will I get 50/50 bearded and non-bearded chicks.. and how can I tell at a young age who will be bearded and who won't be..

thanks again for all the help so far guys.

How old exactly is she? If she is of laying age, her crest isn't going to get much better. The only way it would, is if the roo has pulled feathers while he is mating her.

As for bearded/non bearded, you can tell as soon as they hatch if they have a beard. At least I can with mine.

You say you never noticed if she has feathered legs before today. Well, that tells me that they are not feathered like they should be. You would never be able to miss a Silkie with feathered legs and feet, if they were. Feathers should cover the legs and go all the way down to the ends of the toes, from the middle toe to the outer toes.
