Hi there! Iām a new āchickenā mom to 7 pullets and 1 meat chick. Their names are, Chicken ( from ā how to train your dragonā tv series, my brotherās idea) Mandy, Hazel, Gaina (Guy-eena), Hona (Ho-na) Peep and Pullem.
Iāve been coming here to get my questions answered a lot, so I figured I should join your community
I enjoy everything about chickens. They are my favorite type of pet. Which is kinda ironic because I work at a Chick-fil-A
We had chickens when I was younger and it was a blast. Iāve realized how much I didnāt know back then and this 2nd round of chicks is a whole new adventure!
We purchased 3 Bovan Browns and our meat chick first. Then we decided we wanted more variety in the flock so we added 2 black sexlinks and 2 cali whites. I was worried our older chicks, that were about 2-3 weeks old at the time, would harm the little ones. So I tried the chicken wire separation method; but they kept poking their little heads through the holes.
So I did a little research and someone on ābackyard chickensā ( sorry! I canāt remember your username
) suggested that giving them a fright would help them bond quickly so I tried it. It worked! Theyāre all friends now. So to whoever posted that, thank you!
