New member introduction, I guess! I'm Lauren, I am a cook, preservationist, backyard farmer, food activist living in the Gatineau Hills in beautiful Chelsea, QC, Canada. I am going to be planning and building my coop for spring 2013. I have no experience raising chickens and am both excited and nervous! I'm happy to chat with other newbies, and mooch tips from the experienced members of the board.

Thanks for the nice welcome, all - and for the nice words about the dogs! The beagle is Beatrice, my rescue from rural Nova Scotia, Canada, and the Rotty mix was a foster dog named Rosie who was adopted. And to the fellow (or lady!) who asked: Bea doesn't hunt, but I'm sure she would tell you "YES! YES! I HUNT! LET'S GO!!!". She was found as a puppy on hunting grounds in the middle of a Canadian winter - so my best guess is she was a hunter who didn't make the cut.
