(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes and No, not 'new' we had chickens when I was a kid. My husband (a self proclaimed city boy) insisted we get chickens 3 months ago. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 6 adult hens, 3 roosters (unsure of their breeds)and 6 juvenile pullets. 1 turkey and 4 mixed breed ducks (3) What breeds do you have? Rhode Island red hens a couple brown hens. Chicks are all Rhode Island red. (4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I was looking up pasty butt treatments. (5) What are some of your other hobbies? I bake constantly and fresh eggs make all my recipes the talk of the town(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We have 2 grown children 2 grandsons and a soon to be grand daughter. We recently purchased our home on 8 acres and are enjoying our new home. We have Toby, a Cairn Terrier/Yorkshire mutt who believes hes a truck driver with my husband, (now sidelined due to company policy) an insane kitten named Frank and a bunch of poultry. (7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D found you when one of my chicks got pasty butt and I keep coming back for ideas on all of our questions. :)

Welcome! Hope the pasty butt resolved with cleaning area with warm water and apply Vaseline to bottom. I only needed to do for about three days and then mine were clearing the vent well with no issues. Another tip is when you see some poo at the vent just take a toothpick and gently from the side not the tip of the toothpick lift up under the poo. It will gently lift off without even touching the chic. Glad your a baker. I like to bake too. Show some pics of your chickens. Everyone loves to see photos of the flock.
