I'm wondering if you kept at least some of them in a wire bottomed raised pen/run, etc. To rule out birds picking up coccidiosis, from contaminated ground. Maybe even a wire cover over the pen/run so wild birds can't visit them or get to their feed. I don't know if the avian virus is still around, that was spread by wild birds.

Hi there, Good thinking! I have actually moved the chooks out of their usual pen tonight, and have them in a separate yard with a smaller roosting coop. I see another one has the runs tonight I have put garlic water in with them so will see how they are tomorrow.

Hi, at least by moving them you will hopefully know if its the soil that is harbouring the nasties. Sorry to hear about another one going downhill. It must be all very frustrating.

Update: Today I rang another vet who suggested it could be a bacterial infection, My original vet finally rang me after I left message after message, and said that the autopsy on the previously deceased chook showed she died of pancreatic cancer, and she also may possibly have had a bacterial infection in her peritoneum. Of course, they didnt test for that. !!
Anyway, he suggested antibiotics which I picked up today, along with Imovec? which is an anti worm anti parasite application that you can actually put behind the chooks head and is effective against a wider variety of pests that the Avi verm which I had previously been using.

I cleaned out her crop this morning, but all that came up was the porridge I had given her last night, and unfortunately she seems to have gone down hill a bit after that.
The alternative vet thought it may be tapeworm or something called selfengitis?

I read on the internet that you can clear their crop by giving them a small dose 0.1 of a ml of Parafin oil morning and night, so I have pulled out all the stops today, she has had parafin oil, a small amount of yoghurt, a small amount of Garlic water, lice and worm treatment along with antibiotics. I am also going to Lime out the coop and re disinfect it, although I have done that twice already

I dont know what else to do!! Shes not looking that good this evening, I hope she makes it thru the night. She was an ex battery hen and is the most loving and intelligent girl. I will be gutted if she doesnt make it

yes exactly. I spoke to one of the girls I work with today, and she suggested moving them as well, so Im hoping that having them in the new paddock will make a difference

It sounds like you are doing everything humanly possible to save your bird, and the rest of the flock - you can do nothing more than that!

she is definately looking perkier this morning but still no pooing. given her yoghurt and warm water with rice bran oil, and she looks like she has passed some gooey green stuff, not sure if poo or vomit. I am massaging her crop at regular intervals just in case there is an impaction . She is drinking lots and lots of water so im guessing shes trying to flush something out. Wait and see.
