(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens. We have five chicks reserved at a local hatchery for pickup 2/2021 but when our neighbors found out that we were building a coop they told someone in their network and that person happened to be looking for someone to rehouse their flock so we agreed to rehouse three of their 9-month-old chickens and we've had them for almost a week now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Three

(3) What breeds do you have?

They are all three Amerecaunas. We'll be adding four more; Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Black Australorp, and a Buff Orpington in February.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

They're fun to watch and interact with and there's nothing like bringing home fresh laid eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Reading, piano, traveling, hanging out with friends

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My family is my husband, son, 14-year-old Beagle/Springer mix, and now our chicken flock. I'm a Human Resources Specialist and have been fully remote since March of 2020.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Google!

Welcome to BYC. A friendly, knowledgeable bunch of members always ready to help. Maybe you could add your location to your profile. I often check out of curiosity, especially as it may relate to a question. I have been amazed to see the world wide membership.
Be careful though. Starting with 3 chickens. Beware of how addictive our feathered friends become. I started with 2 ducks and now have 11.

Oh my!!! We are urban so we’ve got a limitation in that way. We have to apply for a license to have more than three even! 😱
