Hi Everyone,
Have been following BYC online from the shadows. I came across BYC while looking for information to help educate myself before getting into my chicken/poultry adventures! I'm a Canadian girl And I was raised on a farm with Beef cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, goats and around chickens but the chickens were never considered pets. And the extent of my knowledge of chickens was basically feeding them, collecting eggs, and processing broilers with my Grandmother.
My husband and I lived in a major metropolitan city for 12 years before packing it in to move closer to family and get back to the country life again to raise our children. We have three amazing kids, ages 2,3 and 7, and I'm privileged enough to be a stay at home Mom whilst doing bookkeeping and administrative duties for my husbands contracting/carpentry/home building/renovating business. Our children love living the country life and raising animals. They know where their food comes from by growing, cannI got and harvesting it and they watch and learn how to process a chicken or harvest an animal to nourish and feed our family.

We had two Labrador retrievers but lost one to cancer this past spring . Our black lab Max loves our feathered friends even though he wasn't raised around them. We have a 16 yr old Siamese cat who also gets along with our feathered animals although they are a bit Leary yet curious about him. We raise free ranged/patured broiler chickens as well as turkeys. We have a small flock consisting of 5 red sexlinks, 4 Americauna crosses, a golden laced Wyandotte, a buff Cochin, and several other pullets we just rescued from an overcrowded breeding mill. We are still figuring out what they are. As we get our farm ready we will be getting heritage pigs and a few cows in the spring. We have a small pond so waterfowl and ducks could also be in our future.
Our home is heated by two big fisher woodstoves so I sometimes feel like cutting and splitting wood is my life! Lol
We have an abundance of wildlife on our farm and enjoy watching wild turkeys and deer daily eating apples from our trees and stealing bird feed! Lol
My husband and I both hunt, not for sport but to provide organic meat for our family and to enjoy nature. I love to cook, garden, vegetable/fruit garden, canning, take care of our animals, spend time with my 3 children, family and friends and be outdoors as much as possible.
I look forward to getting to know fellow chicken enthusiasts and gaining more knowledge.

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Sounds like you have a wonderful place there. I would love to be able to live like that and just watch the deer play. My kids are grown up now and I am to old to be living that life you do right now. My body wouldn't like the cold weather to much either. I love all the pictures thanks for sharing them with us.
