We moved to western virgina and got a place with a chicken coop.
Now that it is heading in to spring we are looking at cleaning out and getting chicks and feeling over our heads, so I am here looking for insight

and Welcome To BYC! Might try posting in the Coop/Run forum for what to do in the run, chickens are pretty darn destructive and unless it is really big, usually the main run winds up being dirt or sand.
You can also check out our learning center here on BYC. Lots of good reads there pertaining to many aspects of chicken keeping...
welcome, our run is divided into 3 large sections. We rotate the chickens when the run is getting run down, sandy, or bare. Chickens can turn a beautiful grassed area to dirt in a couple of days (depending on how large the sections are).
