1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Hi, I am so glad I can be part of this great team of chicken lovers. I have 8 chickens that 5 of them a friend could no longer have them and offered them to be. Since I love animals, I accepted then and then someone I know out of pure emotion I think decided to buy 3 chicks that she wanted to raise and once she knew all that was involved with raising them, she decided she didn't want to it anymore, so I took them under my wing, so that's how I have 8 hens now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 8

(3) What breeds do you have? there are different ones, I am not sure of all the breeds

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? by searching online and through a friend.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? being with my pets and cooking.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have 2 small dogs besides my chickens and I teach at a local school. I have brought one of the hens to work and she has been a hit! I do have a question about one of them that I know she needs help. I just posted my question in the emergency/disease section. Any help I can get, I will appreciate it and and help I can offer, I would be glad to. Thank you =)

Hi Sissy and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us

I hope the ER folks can help you out :fl

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Welcome to the flock, @Sissy Howell! If you are curious as to what breeds you may have, feel free to ask us!
Thank you so much. I know I have an Americana (spelling?), Crusted Polish (which is the one in my profile pic), and that's all I know. I have one that lays green eggs. If I send pictures, would it help to know? Or what do I need to provide to figure out the breeds? Thanks again

You are very welcome! You can post pictures! Your Americauna is probably laying the green. (The Americana is probably an Easter Egger...:p)
