Hi Everybody,
I'm not a chicken keeper yet, just a Wife of 22 years, Mom to 1 daughter, just as of 8 weeks ago , Nana to a grandson, and mom to 1 golden retreiver, Zeus, and 1 pembroke welsh Corgi, Zoe-and a tank of fish. I'm in the reseach end of ckicken keeping and trying to convince my dear heart that I need a coop with 8 nesting boxes. Now looking at Dominecer and Astraulorp breeds, hens only. I wish to have 2 dozen by this time next year-maybe selling eggs? We have 2 acres, of that 1/4 is house paddock, when the dogs live, and 1 1/2 is the pasture and a barn. We are thinking of getting a donkey, as we have everything going through our pasture- dogs, cats, coyote, deer, hawks, possum, snakes-rarely seen, and raccoons-not seen yet. I want a chicken tractor, but my husband says it will be too big to move. I'm looking at welded wire fencing no larger than 1 inch and hardwear cloth along the bottom edge 18 inches high(?), planning on putting the fence under ground 12 inches, and thinking of using concrect backer board floor in the coop, and already have smooth insulation sheets for walls and ceiling, thinking tin for the roof and adding 1 strand of ele. fence along the last 12 inches of the top edge and some kind of netting for top. If you have a point to add, or another suggestion I'm all ears!
Thank-you for all the great threads I've read so far,
Kimberly
