I'm the proud owner of 5 of those sold-as-Ameracaunas-but-really-Easter-Egger beauties. I've wanted to have chickens for a couple of years, but we didn't seriously start talking about it until my 7yo posed a question about a homeschool experiment involving keeping eggs at different temperatures prior to hatching. So we started doing some research and decided we'd skip the experiment as hatching ourselves seemed like too much work and too much risk, but we did get our day-old "Ameracaunas" from the local feed store. They're 22 weeks old, and one has been laying steadily for 2 weeks, so we're super eggcited for the others to start! My hubby, 3 kiddos and 5 hens live in the beautiful and (usually) temperate Pacific Northwest. This is our first foray into the world of chicken ownership.
