I have used this forum as my favorite source of chicken information for about 3 years now (since I purchased my first chicks). I guess I should have joined sooner but now that I have a serious problem I have become a member. I free range my chickens and have used 100% organic means of providing for the ladies. Last week I found 1 dead. I thought it was odd, mourned my loss, disposed of the body and life went on. Later in the week my husband found another girl dead behind our barn door. He figured she had gotten stuck and disposed of her body. I sort of buried my head in the sand and hoped it was merely a coincidence...tonight we found another girl hankered down under a saw in our shop. She is lethargic and her comb is turning black. I fear bird flu but really have no idea what else it could be as my birds have been super healthy. I will be calling our health department in the am. Looking for anyone who may have any info or experiences like this?
