Just introducing myself. My family and I have week old plymouth rocks in a big box in the living room right now. The coop is ready for them when the time comes (it's too cold here in northern ky right now) We're going to try to free range them (we have 4 acres) but we'll have to experiment with different predator solutions (coyotes, hawks foxes etc) as well as keeping the girls from destroying the garden? But we're excited, the kids LOVE them. And they seem to be healthy and happy birds so far. We'd like to keep them that way. :)
peace,
Kirk

- great that you have decided to join us and congrats on your new flock. You'll find lots of useful info in the Learning Centre, and threads on topics that interest you. You may also wish to check out your state thread (type your state in the search box) and find BYC members local to you. Last, but by no means least there's our membership which is friendly and helpful. Make the most of 'em

Welcome to BYC, Kirk. Glad you decided to join our flock. If you free range your chickens, you will lose some of them to predators. It will be up to you to determine whether or not those losses are acceptable. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2013/07/11-tips-for-predator-proofing-chickens.html on predator proofing your chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.
