I'm brand spankin' new here and hope to learn alot, share, and help others.
I free range and haven't had many problems with that at all until yesterday.
One of my RIRs went missing in the late morning and the shoes up 24 hours later looking a little rough. I cant find any wounds etc. We did have some hard rain yesterday later in the afternoon but that was after she went missing. Any explanation on why she would look like this?

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Is it possible she is broody and found a spot to nest that is rough on her plumage? I would keep an eye out for both predators and broody tendencies. If she's got a nest out there somewhere, you might persuade her otherwise to keep her safe indoors to brood.

Good luck and welcome to our roost! :)

Welcome to BYC.
Looks like oil. Chickens are known to seek shelter under cars or trucks (or up in the engine-transmission) after hours. Years ago, our neighbor started up their car late night to quick run to the store... Not a pleasant outcome.
:welcome
I hope you enjoy the site.
