Hi,

Hello, and welcome! Good luck with finding some hen's! I hope that the rooster that you decide to keep will not end up being aggressive to you, since you did have to save some kid's from them.

My expectation is that these two roosters will, in fact, be aggressive. The man that brought them to me had a bandaged hand from one of the birds when I met him. I am going into this expecting this bird to be anything but a pet. Protect the hens, and produce some chicks. If he does this, I give him an (Exceeds Expectations) on his job eval. IF not, three write-ups then he goes into the fryer. (kidding) Seriously, I am not worried about aggression. Just ask me in two weeks how tough I am. LOL

THNX! I need coup ideas. I was planning on building an A-frame tractor. Maybe 6X8
to start with. Maybe three hens and a rooster. Raise one brood this year if I can. We will see what reality looks like.

Be careful with breeding a people aggressive rooster, as that aggressiveness could be passed on in the genes to his son's.

Hello,
I've been thinking about chickens for a while, but I just rescued some kids from two barred rock Roosters. The kids were scared of the roosters, the roosters didn't actually hurt anyone. At any rate, I have two roosters in my garage, in separate dog kennels, each kennel sized for a Doberman. You would think this means I have Dobermans, nope. have two very old rat terriers with entitlement issues. The cages were for travel. Now they are temporary chicken condos. I'll start coop construction asap. My preliminary plan is to trade for two barred rock hens and keep one of the roosters. Anyway, I'm green as grass with this new endeavor, but I am excited. My only poultry experience is with bantams when I was 10, I'm currently 50.

Okay Blue-Baby, how serious of an issue is this? My plan was to give these aggressive little T-Rex birds a fresh start without kids, messing with their hens and chicks. Lots of attention and healthy treats. Coaxing them to come to me for the treat on his own time. If I can't make these birds reasonable, well they will, in fact, become a Sunday dinner. I'll just start over with chicks. My two roosters will be a challenge, I understand that and I can't keep but one, I understand that as well. Can a rooster overcome an aggressive past? I am blaming the kids at this point, for well just being kids. I hope the roosters or at least one of them can learn to adjust.
