I am kind of a newbie because I got my first chicken last year and did not have a clue of how to take care of her.
I raised her WITHOUT a heat lamp and had her in a little bird cage that was in my room and then moved her outside to live in a rabbit hutch when i thought she was old enough.
I am surprised that she lived (I have been reading up since than!).
She grew out of the rabbit coop and now shes living a normal life on a farm that does NOT eat it's chickens!
This year I am going to try it again and will keep the four chicks that i am going to get.

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! Glad to have you here!

Welcome to BYC!

Wow, that was one tough chick!! I hope she gives you years of love. Definitely get her some friends this year!

So glad you could join! Definitely check out the link Kelsie left for you to the learning center. Lots of good reads on all aspects of keeping poultry.

She was very sweet and thought I was her mommy, but I had to give her up because I wasn't really prepared to take care of her in her adult years so she living on a farm that has free rang chickens and they don't eat their chickens.

Her name was Peeps and would come when you called her (at least when she wanted to come!).
I don't think she does that anymore. Hopefully I get to visit her soon!
PS she is a Black sex link chicken.
Oh and the chicks that I am going to get this year are going to be pets!
