Hi!

Thanks for the welcomes

I am still trying to get in touch with my home owner *sigh* I'm so close!

TwoCrows- Chickens in the house?? I don't know if I could do that or how welcoming my dogs would be, I have 1 large black lab/bloodhound mix & 1 medium black lab/border collie mix. They are both gentle babies, but may well run a chicken clear over going after a toy. Also 2 big dogs & 4 chickens in one house might be a bit much lol. Besides we pay $250 deposit per indoor pet & $1500 for 2 dogs & 4 chickens makes me feel a little.....

I was thinking about breeds & I don't know. I think for my first flock I am going to go over to Big R & see what chicks they've got this spring.

Congratulations! That's great news. As for breeds, there are some great quick reference charts at http://albc-usa.etapwss.com/images/uploads/docs/pickachicken.pdf, http://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/breed-list.aspx, and http://www.sagehenfarmlodi.com/chooks/chooks.html. Also, Murray McMurray has an excellent "chick selector" tool at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/chick_selector.html to help you select the best breed or hybrid to suit your criteria. Just be sure and click on "show more characteristics." Whatever breed you decide to get, good luck with your flock.
