Slygotha floated lazily down the river, her big muscular tail steering her along. She kept her frills clamped against her body, looking like a grey black barked log floating down the river. Her eyes darted about, taking in everything as it appeared, without turning her head. She didn't want to break the illusion of the huge tree trunk floating easily down the river to those who would see it.
Nidhogg stayed underwater for the most part. She felt safer in her family's shadow, and could hold her breath for a good twenty minutes at a time.
Half a day passed in this way as the party made its way towards the city. Apprehension increased as the glow of the city echoed in the sky, the sun having set about an hour ago. The river became slower and wider, and small single hulled fishing canoes started sharing the river in increasing numbers. It became apparent that they would need to apply their disguises soon, as they were on the outskirts of the city.
