Well the universe provided a way. One of the hatchlings got stuck, and was about frozen to death when I found it. The mommy hen who ended the hatch had left with the other chicks for the morning. I brought that little frozen baby inside and let it ride in a washcloth in the sleeve of my shirt for a while, and then when it was clear it was going to be fine, I tucked it under the mommy hen who had started the clutch. They are like two peas in a pod! So happy for her.
