I want to check out some of the trails with someone from my team first before I go alone LOL
Yeah, thankfully my dad is very skilled at finding the paths because I remember one hike which was EPIC but it was this long hike in the snow, just like over snowy fields and through snowy forests and across bridges with like two feet of snow piled on top that were only a couple feet wide :), and we lost the trail multiple times but we (thankfully) always re-found it and got to the end, then ate our lunch, talked to some PCT hikers who were coming by because that hike got pretty close to the PCT, and then hiked back and slid down all the slopes and finally finished it. I have always wanted to do that hike again...

Oh wow that’s amazing!

Last year I got sick of bug-spray and started using a mosquito jacket instead. Both on hikes and when I worked at home in the blazing heat. You look silly in it, but it works wonders!

(I was gonna post this last night when you guys were talking about bug spray but then stuff happened lol)

And yeah, going together with people on new trails - good idea!

Although that said, that would work for mosquitoes etc. which are bad too but I was thinking more for ticks which are VERY bad here. Hence the bug spray idea.

I'm thinking it would probably work for ticks too, because it works as a barrier so they can't get near the skin. But theory and reality are two different things...

Luckily I haven't had to find out, 'cause we don't have ticks here. When I lived further south there were lots. The very first time I went into the woods I got one on me :sick Nasty creatures!

Ohhhhh okay I thought it was just the top LOL

And you’re lucky you don’t have them!

I think it would work for adult ticks, but tick nymphs are small enough to slip through even fine mesh. I remember a hike once where I came out of the woods covered in tick nymphs. At first I thought they were freckles, or maybe fine dirt, but then I noticed them moving!!! We could not get to a store that sold deet soon enough. Still gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.
