When we lived in FL we had a lot of hawks around. I only free-ranged when I could be out there with the flock. Also, I noticed the hawks were mostly around in the early morning and toward dusk, so I avoided letting the birds out during those parts of the day. Free ranging always has it's risks, some think it's worth it and some don't...it's up to each person to decide what's right for them.
