Hi y'all! It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Tori and I'm brand spanking new to all this craziness! I'm not gonna lie, I saw the ducklings and chicks at tractor supply Co and well after enough pestering to my husband, he gave in and we now have two beautiful 1 week old ducklings and 2 very sweet but scraggly looking 3 week old chicks!
I know for a fact my ducklings are roens and I'm not quite sure the breed on my chicks but will definitely be finding out from my husband when he's awake! (Currently writing this at 1 am lol) He's obsessed with the chicks and I'm obsessed with the ducklings lol but I love them all equally!
Currently I'm really loving the aspect of taking care of them, it's been so nice to bond with them and they trust me enough to eat out of my hand after two days! It's been a.. rough start to say the least. We had (key word lol) a heat lamp in a temp set up in our garage to keep them warm but woke up to a burning smell after it toppled over and almost caught a rug on fire (our first night!! 😭) but then we moved them to a temp set up in our bathroom that's been *slightly* less panic inducing but also very stress inducing for me personally lol
Other than taking care of my chickies and ducklings, I've been putting a lot of effort into learning sewing and crochet, I'm working on my baking to start a small baked goods stand at the farmers market on weekends, as well as taking care of my (currently thriving) garden! I'm unemployed at the moment so I have a lot more extra time on my hands than I prefer lol
My husband and I live together in a pretty nice house on the edge of our town with two dogs, so we got just enough space to have our animals and our neighbors already agreed to keep it quiet for eggs in exchange once my babies are big enough which I know was semi joking, but certainly made me feel a lot better!
I'm honestly so happy I found this forum, I've been reading wayyyy too many articles from this beautiful place, and learning way more than I probably need to know but I want to know everything!! After realizing my specific questions didn't have articles, I decided to become a member and see if others with similar questions to mine can get the help we all need!
Sorry for the long read, and hopefully I can learn even more now as a member!

Hello! Welcome to BYC! I agree with DobieLover about using a chain with a heat lamp very important! Also, when using a heat lamp be sure to keep the bulb and the reflector clean.
