hmm... baby chick?

ok i have to hijack this for a minute!! so what we are looking at is a white spot beside the yolk? that means it fertile? i just got up and went to my kitchen to crack an egg. my eggs have that same spot, but i dont have a roo!! i do have a chicken who doesnt look the same as the others, but not like a roo either! her comb and wattles are smaller and lighter than everyone elses. so if that is a fertile egg and my eggs look exactly the same, maybe she is a he and i have fertile eggs! now i have to go out in the morning, take more pics of my chickens and eggs to post!!

That cloudy thingy DOES NOT mean that the eggs are fertile. Both non-fertile and fertile eggs have it.

The way you tell if it's fertile is by cracking open an egg or two and looking for the germinal spot. If it's NOT fertile, the spot will be really small(only like a speck) but if it IS fertile, then the spot will be bigger and more circular, like an "O". Here's a link to a picture of an INfertile egg, and a fertile egg:

(Notice the Chalaza, which looks like a white cloud thingy, near the yolk on BOTH fertile and non-fertile.

) I hope this helps!

I have been making some threads, not as much though. You must have missed the last one, but my dad and I went to a chickenstock meet close by, saw some peeps from BYC(of course this is where I found out about the meeting!

) And we got two buff cochin chicks and a splash cochin rooster. Sold our RIR rooster to someone who know has him in his own flock of RIR hens.

But I still get on almost every day here to see what's new.
