When I bought my chicks back in April, I realized I was probably going to have more eggs than I needed, so I decided to start saving my egg cartons so that I could have something to put my eggs in when I went to sell them.

So, I've been a good little hoarder, saving up all of our egg cartons, letting them take up all the space in my closet, knowing they'd come in handy.

I only have one chicken laying. Today, I decided to put her egg into my carton of grocery store "large" eggs.

Anyone else see the flaw in my plan?

Better start eating a bunch of store bought XL eggs to have enough!

good problem to have!!!! you need to store your eggs pointed side down. They will stay fresh longer.

That's a black copper marans. I bought her as an adult. Since she's been with us, she gives us an egg every other day, and they range from 2.5 oz to 2 7/8 oz. They have all pretty much looked like that one.

It looks like the huge beautiful eggs I've been getting from my Red Star hens. At almost six months, the Red Star eggs are twice as big as my Rose-Comb Leghorn eggs. A lot of double yolkers, too.

One of my hens lays eggs so big that they won't even fit into the jumbo cartons. The jumbo store eggs look small next to her eggs, and in fact, most of our "normal sized" eggs are as big or bigger than the jumbos from the store. We have a plastic egg holder that came with my mom's refrigerator that we use for the enormous eggs.
