Hmmm...does anyone have...

I called Ideal. I think your right. Another good thing about Ideal is that you only have to order $25 worth and not 25 peeps. But, you might get a bunch of roo "packing peanuts" to go with your order. I don't need anymore roos. So, I'm gonna rethink the whole thing and who knows? I may just scratch the whole hatchery thing and stick to incubating. At least I'll know who to blame if they don't make it.

These are mine right now. I'll be getting some more of the Black Orps as well as 1/2 doz Turkens this weekend.

Here's the black orp.. it was the only chick in the hatch. It came to us a day or so old on 1/27. Here it is today.

This is the only chick that hatched from my group of 8. It's a couple hours old here. The dad is a Barred Rock and the mom a RIR.

My black orpington came courtesy of Big Blue. We also got a really nice project rooster from him.

The RIR/Barred chick is home grown. We were given a bunch of hens and the rooster by a friend of a friend. The RIRs are the only ones that lay. I put 8 eggs in and this was the only one that was fertile. So basically, I will have alot of chicken (and a roo, too)in my freezer very soon.

Unless I can find some one who wants a couple pretty yard birds....

I wonder if the PO does shut down delivery one day a week; how will this affect the poultry shipping dates? They will obviously have one day lay over somewhere. . .one more thing to be cautious about!!!

Also, I have Ideal's brochures, and on the order form it has a spot for where you can get the chicks vac., debeaked, etc., and it says to check on the other side . . .nothing, how much do they charge for the vac. of the little fluffs?

Thanks to all of you, I just read and read and read on this site, just love it and the pics. I am an animal lover from way back, always wanted to be a vet, but married and had 5 kids instead, which was great too, but now I want to get back into the land and become a little more self-sufficient. . .can't butcher the chicks, as they will be like pets, but to each his own!!

Ya went from 50 to 24?

Anyway, good luck and I think I'm going to go some place else for mine. Or buy some hatching eggs. The more I read on these hatcheries the more I doubt a good outcome. Once bitten, I guess...

Send some pics!

Until then, I'll be refereeing the kids!
