Hmmm I guess I never filled this out...

Welcome to BYC! I hope you find everything you are looking for here. It sounds like you are bringing quite a bit of experience to the table and we look forward to seeing your flock and hearing of your success or failures!

Thank you! I have certainly learned more from the failures than the successes :he and from my "chicken book library" which I read from just for funsies!! ;)

Plucky hope you stay Lucky (regarding storm). Glad you made your BYC membership official.

Lol thanks, although here in the Sacramento area our "storms" are pretty pathetic compared to the rest of the country. But I'll take a few rain drops and a wee bit of wind over the recent nearby wildfires any day...:hit

Welcome!! I'd love to see some pics of your flock! Is your current flock from MPC?

Thank you! Yes, I'm going to take some good pics soon, especially since we "renovated" our chicken yard a few months ago. But the camera lens on my phone is busted, so I'm going to have to go out with an actual honest-to-goodness camera....no easy feat with 3 kids, mainly because the youngest is a toddler wrecking ball!! Yipes. And 6 of our current flock is from MPC, the 16 arriving next week are from there also.

I hear you! I have 3 kids too. And a grown 4th one aka my husband. Lol!! I try to go out weekly and snap some pictures. My girls are almost 11 weeks! 15 are from MPC and 2 are from a local friend. I actually got a blue favaucana too. She was my pick and is turning out beautiful. How are your MPC hens? Are they good quality birds? Lay well?

Haha nice! I hope our Favacauna turns out blue, I looove "blue" chickens and since our Blue Andalusian turned out to be splash (still beautiful, just not the grey color I was hoping for), I am keeping my fingers crossed for the Favacauna! My husband does not share my enthusiasm for my diverse "lawn candy" choices and is a Black Australorp loyalist who would be happy to have all Australorps, all the time.
So of our 10 MPC chickens, we have 6 left. One of our Easter Eggers got egg bound on her very first egg (it seemed early and her body couldn't seem to handle it), and had such severe vent prolapse and was in so much pain we had to put her out her misery. It was very traumatic and heartbreaking. A second EE and a golden cuckoo marans died last sumer - we were camping both times and had friends watching the house and animals so don't know exactly what happened but I suspect respiratory issues either directly or indirectly related to heat. The 4th one to go was at our hands - a black Australorp that ended up being a rooster by mistake (MPC refunded me the cost of the chick due to sexing error). He was glorious and I was in love with him, and we let him live as long as we could, but eventually ate him because he crowed soooooo loudly and we didn't want to rankle neighbors. The remaining hens are currently molting and not laying much, but before this they were laying great, we were swimming in eggs and had more than enough to eat ourselves and plenty to gift to family and friends. I do miss my "daily rainbow" of eggs, as the deceased EE's and Marans had laid blue, green, and dark dark brown eggs, respectively. The survivors seem pretty healthy otherwise, at least so far.
You'll have to post pics of your Favacauna's beautiful green eggs when she reaches point-of-lay!! :bun
