Do You Think All Homeowners Should Be Allowed To Keep Chickens

Moon...I get that it may seem so easy for you to not live in an HOA subdivision but 9 time out of 10 I doubt someone will be able to pack up and move just to get out of an HOA...at least this is quite true for the HUGE city I live in.

Ya I guess they might be fewer and further between depending on where you live.
Around my area id say 75% of subdivisions have them.
My first in town home didn't have one because I didn't consider any place that had them. I also get that many probably wasn't thinking of having chickens when buying homes. Even then I saw enough restrictions about other things that I wasn't interested in spending that much of my money to be told what I couldn't do or have.
That home I bought was in a small town. I was there for a while then the town began growing and adding a lot of codes. Many were like HOAs restrictions.
Colors you could paint your home, no boats, rv etc. Grass no taller then 8" etc. etc. I once got a violation for "inoperable vehicle" $75 fine for my second car having a flat tire.
That was my breaking point.
I did sell my house for well less then it was worth. Moved from a good school district and gave up a good job that I liked and had been at for five years. Moved a hour south where I knew no one and started over.
School district was actually better. Found a new job which although pays less I love and allows more time at home and being in the boonies this mortgage is cheaper so the less pay equals out about the same as pay vs mortgage payment. Also got back to the idea of neighbors that care and look out for each other instead of worrying about out doing each other.
Everything worked out in my case. But I get that many wouldn't see it as an option or take the risk.

:plbb You know there's always room at my place for you.

See kikis, chooks gonna make it easier for you.
Pack up and get outta there. That big city life seems like it could be a real pain and I know you're not one to complain.
Did I mention country life slows time down? Time don't rush by as fast in the sticks.

I mentioned the bonfires and hockey parties, but she just seemed spooked at the idea of clearing the pond with a tractor and said she'd stay where the temperatures were warm. Nobody ever wants to keep me company---I don't even smell that bad. :hit

Lol
I grew up playing hockey on frozen ponds using a good hickery stick and old skoal cans for pucks.
Sometimes even pouring water on our jeans from the knees down so they would freeze and you could really take a beating from the sticks.
Crazy rednecks

I haven't read the story yet but to be honest and unpopular here. I usually don't have a lot of sympathy when I hear about these cases.
To me its real simple.
DON'T LIVE ANYWHERE THAT HAS A HOA.
I have never done it myself and would never nor do I get why anyone would unless they favor restricted freedoms of their neighbors AND themselves.
Seems a lot of people love the idea of decisions being made about how others should live but then don't agree when decisions are made about their lives.
HOAs would not ever be an issue if you stay out of them.
Its easy to end them. Quit living there.
When homes with HOAs quit selling and people start living and buying in areas without them they will quit causes all these heartbreaks.
Unfortunately that will never happen because I believe. Some people will not ever want their neighbors to be free to do as they please on their own properties.. Its sad that many are willing to give up their rights to insure the neighbors don't get to keep their rights.
I honestly don't get it. What am I missing????
I to have read the story yet, however I agree with you when you get a HOA house you know that there are regulations you have to fallow some you might not agree with but when you got the house you agreed to obey those regulations. It's like renting an apt knowing you can't have pets then you get a pet and think it's unfair that the landlord found out and is making you get rit of the pet.
I don't like them, and will not get a house that has an HOA
Just my 2 cents

I'd get stuck having to learn how to run marathons or something up there.
Either running after her, from her , or running for my life...from the bears!
