hock joint injury to keet..hugging left leg to body

Thank you. Sorry to keep hounding everyone about this issue. This baby had been doing so well then it just went bad. I put so much into taking care of him now its all sadness...

No apologies necessary.

Did the baby oil work on getting the tape off?

How is your baby doing?

You are doing the best you can, we are here to try to help

I had no baby oil but let it soak in gobs of oil based massage lotion. It worked.

Initially I could tell baby was gonna be fine. Now I just dont know. Body is adapted, functions best as he can but spirit seems weak. I will see what vet says tomorrow and then take him out to see the sun.

I'm glad you were able to get the tape off.

I'm sorry he is not doing well though, hopefully the vet will be able to help.
Let us know how it goes.

Will do. He had a "play date" with siblings today. Couple of hours closely supervised. He was hopping about. He came out of another splint...and was paddling with the bad leg. Its weird cause I swear he had sooooo much fun. I put him in his box and he took his preening bath, ate, drank, and conked out. Its so crazy though cause when I open the window he cocks his head and listens to the birds and crickets. God is amazing, that this little life would be so spirited... And just yesterday the isolation was getting to him so fingers crossed.

I'm glad he was able to visit the other chickens. Even when injured/isolated they still want to be part of a flock, so I'm sure he enjoyed it.

Hopefully he will recover soon so he can join them.

Ok so vet visit went well. Its been 13 days since his tendon slipped. We did stretches 3-5x a day for 5 days and then a number of slings splints hobbles and rubberbands for 5 more so when the avian vet said oh yea, this is totally treatable I was shocked. So much time had lapsed. He is staying in his cast for 2 wks. I have to monitor growth and watch his foot and toe to make sure his blood flow is good. Other than that its all hands off until July 29.

Last check in he was eating and already testing the leg. He cant lay down though. He leans into the corner. He has a better view to his siblings but they are so rambunctious he cant get any sleep. Going to cover the birds tonight and maybe the complete darkness will calm them.

Will get a pic or video later. Im going to nap.

3 days after vet. Progress? I dont know. My splint allowed him to bear weight. Herehe is paddling so I really dont know. He has new housing, instead of a box, so he can see his siblings.

I looked at your videos, this one and the one before, it does look like some improvement.

I'm glad you have him where he can see the others, he really wants to with them doesn't he. Hopefully he will recover enough so he can interact with them more.

I dont know. I hopeits progress.... He has to stay in splint for 2 wks. I just hope the tendon is in place. The vet never did this before. She was a vet tech. I thought I was seeing the bird vet....anyway she didnt leave me with any confidence at all. I tell myself to just be positive... if I dont see weight bearing by Wednesday I will take him in and have them check the splint.

He is growing. I ran out of the high protein stuff and gave him a 21% feed after vet visit (fri sat sun) He ate 6× as much. I gave him both today but seperate. He wanted the lesser protein. Yet in 3 days I know he has put on more weight than he did in all of last week. It might have to do with the other vitamins and lysine I think it was.

Did they vet say anything about restricting his movements any until he is healed?
He seems to move pretty fast in spite of his leg. Wondering if all the moving around aggravates the leg and hip joint?
Did they talk about it they will try to bring the leg in closer to the body or is it always going to be splayed out a bit?
