Silkie Chick Leg Issue - Please Advise!

Walk backwards? Is this a silkie?
Yes it’s a Silkie. Basically she takes steps backwards instead of forward and flaps her wings a little. She can go forward but her instinct is to go backward if she’s stressed or I grab her for example.

Did she get pecked or bullied in the head? I’m thinking maybe she’s got wry neck which is a head injury. Is she holding her head down towards the ground when she walks backwards? Or sometimes they put there head between there legs and try to walk.

No, I don’t think it’s wry neck. Her head and neck positioning is strong/fine. I did have 1 other chick out of this batch of 14 that had it and I successfully fixed it with Vitamin E/Selenium. I am thinking she is walking backward due to her leg pain/issue.

I’ve had several silkies that got wry neck. They always get worst before they get better. Have u tried vitamin b complex one pill in a quart of water?

Vitamin b complex I use it for my call ducks, chicks, everything. In my flock you don’t get any water unless there’s vitamin b in it. It really helps for leg issues. After a week I may stop giving it. But the first week at my house, everyone has to have it. Lol

Just to provide update…it seems like her leg stopped bowing out and she’s standing a little more but she’s still hesitant to walk forward or really move (she seems to be trying more and more to go forward but still goes backwards at times). I am gonna give her a few more days.

Thanks so much for the updates! It does sound like she is taking little steps in the right direction (and I totally didn’t mean to make a pun out of that 🤣)

I wouldn’t go that far yet! I think it “froze” her tendon in a better position and let the bone heal up but I don’t think the tendon is correctly placed to where she can walk normally. So I think at this point it’s a matter of can she learn to get around enough where it’s not gonna impact her so much where it would be better to cull her.

Hi curious if you have an update on this? My little chick is just going through it and wanted to read more about other people’s experiences with it.. I don’t even know if my chick has slipped tendon but I’m 90% sure
