Silkie Chick Leg Issue - Please Advise!

Update - I decided to try the “hanging method” where I’m gonna suspend her off ground for a few days and see if the pressure off her leg helps at all.

Keep us posted. Rooting for your little one! I would love to know if she is able to recover from this!!!

Btw something that helped with my chick, was popping the tendon into place and then putting something around the leg holding it straight so the tendon couldn’t pop back out (I believe in my case we used a drinking straw with a slit in it that I put around the leg then taped it so it would stay shut.) Hopefully that makes sense. You want the leg to be straight and the tenon in the correct position and the legs suspended.

Nice point perhaps with it being in the hung position and no pressure to the leg this will give it sometime to heal correctly. As long as the chick doesn’t move it around it might actually work.

I had to put her in a modified sock today because she kept jumping out of the t-shirt sling and it just wasn’t working. I have her leg lightly taped backward to that hammer so there’s some pressure keeping it back (and so she doesn’t try to use her other leg to jump on the bricks). I’m going to keep her in here for 5 days straight and then decide what to do.

That is ONE Modification. HANDS DOWN for you, LOL

I am SO impressed with that set up you created!!! Sounds like a great plan, you are doing awesome! Keep us posted!!

Well a change of plans…I ended up taking her out of the sling today. She had been in there 48 hours straight and I was just getting worried about the possible effects. I went to rewrap her leg this AM and just had a bad feeling about going longer. It’s too hard to get her in and out daily so I wanted to try and do 5 days like they do with younger chicks but it just doesn’t seem feasible on an older chick. I plan to keep her separated from flock for new few days. She seems relieved to be out (cleaning, etc). Her leg does seem a bit more corrected actually but I don’t know if it’s permanent or just stiff and will revert. I don’t think I’m going to even wrap it again out of the sling and see if she adapts to using it normally. My bigger concern right now is she is still trying to walk backwards like she was before. Any ideas why that is the case?
