I have a 11 day old Golden Polish chick that has some sort of small hole in the abdomen. I believe its too low to be where the yolk would have entered. This chick had a pasty butt and I cleaned it up a few days ago and hasnt had much of an issue. When I was cleaning the brooder and checking butts today I noticed there was a small bit of crust on the under side of the chick and it appeared she laid on some poop and it stuck to her but before I started to clean it, I noticed there was a small hole about 1/5th of a centimeter in the belly side of the chick. I could see bits of the inside of the chick thru this hole. I immediately took her inside and gently cleaned her up with water and a clean soft rag and put some neosporin on the hole. There was a very tiny amount of blood, no oozing, no puss no bugs and oddly no redness. I have her seperated from everyone else and in the house. I am wondering if there is anything more I can do for her.

As long as she is eating and drinking I would not worry. Just make sure you keep it clean and don't allow any of the other chicks to peck at it. It should close in it's own. Have you tried super glue?

Please don't super glue that hole because if there is any kind of bacteria in the wound you will seal it in. A friend of mine super glued a cut he had on his hand and it was infected the next day. It wasn't until the following day that he finally went to the hospital but by then it had entered his blood stream. He was hospitialized for two days getting IV antibiotics to fight the infection.
I have a hen that was attacked by my dogs about two weeks ago and she had three dime size and two quarte size wounds along with about a thrid of her feathers getting riped out. I flushed her wounds with sterile water (boil water for about five minute and let cool) and hydrogen perioxide (50/50 mix). Then, I placed antibiotic ointment over the wounds and covered with non-stick goss and wraped the hen with a bandage roll. I use a piece of tape to hold and bandage roll on. Each day I remove the bandages, flush the wounds, reapply the antibiodic ointment, and rebandage. All of her wounds have healed except for the two large wounds which are getting close. I also have been giving her terramycin powder in her water. This may also work for your little one. If you can't do the bandages because of the chick's size at least clean it out and apply some antibiotic ointment to prevent infection at the site. I hope this helps!! Good luck!!

Thanks. I have her in a small crate with no litter on the bottom. I put her on a clean towel so that bedding didnt get stuck in it. I put triple antibiotic on it but didnt cover it. I worried I may hurt her worse if I tried. I thought about the super glue but wasnt sure it was a good idea because I could see what looked like intestines and worried I would adhear skin to intestines and she'd surely die.
