Holiday Babies: Who's hatching? Updated With Many Pics!

My last chick hatched last night. The other was a dud. I think it got cold at some point. My broodies are awesome but it was their first time and it got mighty cold there for a couple nights. He's ugly but maybe he'll become a beautiful swan.

I moved my broody last night and she is NOT happy this morning!! She was pacing at the door wanting out so I blocked off the nestbox and stuck her back in there. I hope she stays!! They are due today or tomorrow!! The meanies in the coop were standing at her old box fussing as well. They must miss having her to terrorize!

Shayna: as my first born is grown n gone, I now have until the 10th to get things down (my son's b-day). January birthdays, what WERE we thinking??

well, the peep is out and it looks like a fav x cochin! it got the 5th toes on both feet, pink skin on the feet, and mostly yellow down but it has a streak down the back of gray and waaay too much fuzz on the middle toe to be a full blooded fav.

i won't complain, i LOVE my cochin foot feathers! sometimes i think the favs need more!

(i know, it isn't breed standard, but i'm trying to work on some new fav colors, and the cochins help!)

Taaa-Daaaa! Here they are... my Orps!

I received 14 eggs. 2 weren't fertile, one embryo died very early...found a blood ring when I candled the first time... the other two chicks died just after lockdown I think because they both were perfect looking chicks (one lav and one blue) with partially absorbed yolk sacks

BUT I do have 9 beautiful fuzzy butts.... 4 lemon cuckoo, 3 blue and 2 lavs....

It's so sad to find those developed chicks that don't hatch but you sure did good with the ones that did hatch.

@Chickie'sMoma: That sounds like one cute little chick you have there. I'd love to see a pic!

@Blarneyeggs: I know what you mean about those January birthdays! No chance for pool parties or parties at the park like their friends get! My dd hopes for snow every year. This has been a particularly mild winter, so that might not work out this year for her as it has in the past. The kids have a ski trip coming up too and it was just 60 here! Best January ever!!
