Holiday stress

Holidays can die. I'll go whole up in my room.

Tell me when January comes. That's when all my winter activities start. Winter retreat with youth group and quizzing starts. And quizzing goes all the way through to March so I have something to do in the worst months of winter.

why dont you like the holidays???

So many people. So much shopping. I like my house quiet. Christmas is usually at my house. I like it a lot better when we go to my aunt and uncle's, though. I really could do without the presents. The weather is evil also.

This year we have decided to not do the traditional 'holidays' instead we are having a big potluck and no gifts coming or going. We did this a little last year and found that we just enjoyed the holidays and being around people that we loved and have a lot of great memories with out all the stress. It was very freeing.

I just posted this thead in everything else for sale so that members could list items they make and sell. It's a great way to support fellow BYC'ers and do your Christmas shopping.

I try to shop all year long as I find things on clearance. The hardest part for me is my family in Australia. I REALLY want to give my Mum something nice but the chances of it getting lost in the mail and the $50 it costs to post a box is insane!

We decided a few years back to draw names with my BILs & SILs which makes it easier. Not to mention the $25 amount we can spend on each other.

The most stressful part for me is the 550 mile drive to KY to my FIL's, where I get to arrive exhausted and then spend the day cooking Christmas dinner. MIL passed away a couple of years back.

My next favorite part, is that I don't get to sit with DH and the kids to eat. There are so many relatives there that we take turns eating, so by the time I am one of the last to the table I get to eat the leftovers I just spent hours cooking!

I used to love Christmas and if it wasn't for my kids I'd skip it completely! I wish I could have it in Australia with my family. My Mum and Stepfather did come over a couple of years ago and we all went to KY for Xmas dinner. The FIRST Xmas my kids have ever had with any members of my family.

Can you believe my selfish and thoughtless SIL sat next to my Mum at the dinner table which left no empty seats. I hadn't had Xmas with my Mum in 15+ years. Yep after I finally got to sit and eat dinner ( I was too upset to really eat ) I bawled like a baby.

I think the Holidays will be here sooner than we think.. It was 46 degrees in My. Pocono this morning !!!! I better get crackin on the cards and baking supplies. Thanks for the reminder

Ugh! Christmas already?? Where did summer go? I really can't wait until Christmas is over, if it weren't for my son I would skip it.

I just went to our local pharmacy and all their summer items and summer gifts were on clearance for 75% off.
I got super cute totes for $3.25 each, huge scented candles marked down from $19 to $4.75 and several other things. I spent $29 total and came out with $120++ worth of cute gifts.

That should just about cover all the women in the family for less than $30
