Holy Carp!!! Big Egg!.

we're getting HUGE eggs from some of our brahmas now, too!

I think it may be, one of the 3 Brahmas I got from you she got her waddles and comb just a few days before that honker popped up. We have gotten 4 double yolk eggs since and I think I have one more in the fridge. The buff orps and Brahmas definitely lay much larger more consistent eggs than the delawares and alstralorps I already had, but my alstralorps are batting for the fences with an average of 6 eggs each per week.

All of the girls I got from you are doing VERY well! They are a little less friendly than my other girls, but I think that is because I have had the others since they where about a week old. I am still working with them though. That rascally little wyanadote that everyone thought was a rooster runs herd on all of the rest of the girls! go figure! lol.

Mine have been laying for about 3wk now and it is typical to get large double yolk eggs, but when I got this one out tonight, I couldn't believe it. At first, I thought is was a duck but that is impossible.

This is compared to my large double yolk egg.

I wonder if it is the time of year for this...I never heard of such a thing until I seen it for my self and logged on here. Seems everyone is getting these X large eggs.

Question to anyone... One of my chickens layed a soft egg after she was acting funny... She has layed before.. Never a soft egg.. Do you think any thing could be wrong..I did loose a bird last week, why i don't know... Help

Just get some oyster shell and put it in the coop. I am building an oyster shell dispenser for they but until I get it done I have been layering their feed in their feeder, approximately 4 parts feed 1 part oyster shell.

I'm glad the girls are doing well on your farm. I can see where ours wouldn't be as friendly since I don't spend as much time with them as I should. I hate to get emotionally close to them and then lose one to a coyote or something. It makes it so much harder. We lost one of our ducks while we were on vacation last week and I'm still very sad over it.

Holy cow we got a double yolker too! Huge thing...3 1/2 inches. Very large!

One of my EEs was consistently laying jumbo 70+ gram eggs for a couple months when she first started laying. I couldn't close the cartons and I had cartons sized for extra large eggs. This is with 3 of her eggs in the back and 3 eggs from the other EEs in the front which were about the size of standard store bought eggs.

After the first couple months they tapered off and now she lays pretty much all regular sized eggs.
