Holy Crap! My brooder lamp exploded!!!

I bought a red 100 watt flood light from Walmart to put in my heat lamp. From the height I put it, the brooder stays 80 degrees, and the chicks seem to like it fine. I doubt I'll be using it for much longer though as the chicks just turned 2 weeks today. I'll probably move them to an outside pen when they get a bit more feathered out as it's definitely not too cold for them to be outside.

I am so sad! We have these Arctic temps dipping into the south, with temps in the single digits. I was supposed to buy 4 Isbars, about 8+ weeks old (just north of us here in North Georgia). I got a message that the brooder lamp had exploded, and all the chicks died! Wow!

Am going to have to learn more about this so whatever chicks I get don't die.

So sad!

You can skip a heat lamp entirely and go with a safer option like an EcoGlow or a Sweeter Heater.
