Just wanted to share some photos of the absolutely astonishing size egg that my Pekin laid this morning. Her normal is between 2.30oz - 2.50oz. Talk about a JUMBO egg! My Khaki Campbell also laid one significantly larger too! Her normal is between 2.10oz - 2.25oz and she laid a 2.56oz this morning! They must've had wonderful happy days yesterday!

I'm sure it didn't I have only seen goose eggs that size

I initially thought maybe double yoker but when I seen that my Khaki laid one bigger than her normal as well, it seemed too coincidental. I gave them the same amount of food as always so I don't know what triggered them to both have exceptionally larger eggs today. The egg today is 1oz larger than her normal! That's nuts.

Pekins are AWESOME ducks!!! You'll know when you get a Pekin double yolker..

My Pekin used to put out a double about every 2-3 weeks in the 120g (4.23) - 130g (4.59oz) range... Her "normal" eggs were between 100g (3.53oz) and 110g (3.88oz). (I used grams because my scale only did 8ths in oz. so it was easier to see the changes.) At that time she weighed 11 lbs. As a point of reference, everyone else's (Runner, WH, Swedish, Rouen, Cayuga,) eggs were 68g (2.40oz) - 90g (2.82oz). And on two occasions some joker laid an egg that was 20g (0.71oz) (fully shelled no yolk) - we blamed those on Tevye, our foppish Drake

GOODNESS! Was yours a regular Pekin or a Jumbo Pekin?

Snow was a regular Pekin. According to Metzer, in normal Pekins, they breed a big drake with a medium sized, good egg laying duck. To get a well balanced Pekin. With Jumbo Pekins they breed a big drake with a big duck to try to push the scale up. That means normal Pekins have around the same top size but Jumbo Pekins are less likely to be as small on the lower end. Snow kept growing (slowly) for most of a year... When she was fully feathered, she was around 6 lbs. When she was first laying eggs she was around 8 lbs. At a year and a half, she was just shy of 11 lbs (and fairly stable there). There is a gal on the forum here that has 4 of her sisters from the same hatch and they all did about the same. I am guessing this is about "normal" because at that weight she was still running around climbing, hopping and didn't look any fatter that the rest of the non-runners. Plus Metzer had a weight range for "normal" Pekins of 9 - 13 lbs so she was right in the middle. I am guessing your girl is in that 8 lb. range just starting to lay. If so, expect even bigger eggs in the future. Pekins are egg laying machines! I think it is kind of funny that they are considered a meat bird. If you compare the eggs per year to a Khaki Campbell or a chicken, they might fall a bit short, but I bet if you compare pounds of eggs / year, they have to be near the top - a 2 egg omelet is plenty with a Pekin! Plus Pekin ducks have such a wonderful personality! We lost ours in July and miss her terribly...

So you have a great mix for eggs! The most prolific recognized breed and the breed with the biggest eggs. By the way the world record for a duck egg was laid by a Pekin in Ireland... 227g (8 oz) it wasn't just a double yolker... It had a fully formed egg inside the outside egg.

I bet she knew when she laid that one!!!

Wow! Those are giant eggs daily! She laid her normal of 2.50oz this morning. Yes, I would say she weighs in at about 8lbs. You're saying she will get bigger?
