Holy Exploding Rotten Egg in the Incubator Batman!!!!

Can I do that and put eggs right back in it? I thought about the baking soda but I wasn't sure it wouldn't act as a dessicant and dry my eggs out.

The one I had blow up was in my hand, in the kitchen, 3 feet from the door. Almost made it... Painted the whole kitchen. All but an outline of me....

Ewww Cowboy! That would have sent me over the edge! I guess I didn't believe they were that fragile - but I am a believer now. I will candle eggs before I put them in the bator and I won't approach an iffy one without a ziploc - I have read two people whose advice I would take without question say to candle them before you put them in the incubator - and never approach a bad egg without a ziploc - I may as well be a kid or a chicken for all the "doesn't apply me" that goes through my head some days.

I would just smell the incubator every day an if I smelled anything I would smell each egg an chink the smelly ones... Worked fine for years. Then I got sick an neglected the incubator for a week. It sounded like someone shot a gun in the house.... Started doing this in 2003 so one egg in that amount of time is not bad....

If an egg explodes in your incubator should I throw all the eggs away? I had one explode today and I have a bunch of eggs in it. It didn't go all over the bator just leaked on a couple of eggs and got on the bottom of the incubator.

Yuck! Well, I would say you need to get that clean, pronto. I have a mixed clutch meaning, my son decided we 'must add more eggs' two weeks after the others were set. (little farmer already <3 ) So the first set hatched, and I put the remaining eggs in a soft towel lined bowl to keep the heat in. I poured vinigar and baking soda in and cleaned and scrubbed gently. It worked pretty well. For the final cleaning, I will use a bleach solution of 9 parts water to one part bleach. You could use the bleach solution to clean and still continue to incubate. Just rinse it out well. Be sure not to get any water in the electric components. Then you can put the eggs back in and go about your normal hatching business. And as for the husband, Tell him "Just think of all the money we'll save on farm fresh eggs, honey!"
