Good Afternoon! My name is Tom and I'm from DFW. My wife and I always wanted chickens and we had the opportunity to stay a week at a bed and breakfast that kept chickens. We got to "rent" the chickens and we were sold. I'm here to learn as much as I can before I make the plunge. Hopefully I can learn from y'alls "hindsight is 20/20" moments

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Completely new!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
0. Hoping to start with 6-8.

(3) What breeds do you have?
None. Looking at a mix of Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock, Leghorns. I live in a hot climate and they seem to fair pretty well. I spoke to some 'chicken raisers'? at the Stock show this year, these were what they recommended.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Teaching my daughter responsibility, exposure to where our food comes from, eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
hockey, woodworking, shooting, travel

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two German Shepherds who probably won't be too keen on sharing a part of their yard with walking food, but they mind very well.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I actually found you guys on reddit, they speak very highly of yall! I finally joined because I want to be part of the community.
