Home Made Bator Pics

Wish I could make a bator. Thing is I don't believe I'm capable of it.

That first pic is RIGHT on for what you want to see. The large black dot is the chick forming.

The bottom one looks clear, but it's still early yet. Unless the egg is cracked/oozing/stinky, I'd leave it in a few more days before tossing them out.

Good luck with your hatch!!

I've had two great hatches with my home made cooler-bators.

The first pic is the correct one!!!!
If you wait a while you can actually see the dot moving a bit.

It does a dance in the egg. LOL!

If you candle from the top then you can see the veins forming around it.

Looks good! Good luck with this hatch!

Guess my next project may be building a home made candler. These pictures were taken holding a mini mag light with the egg in my hand. I tried looking thru the top but I didn't see any viens. The camera actually picked up the dot, all I could see was a large dark mass inside compared to the other four, and of course I dropped it afterwards. I will post more pictures when week two ends. Thanks for all the feedback, sounds like I'm on track.

Just a side note: I am not turning these eggs three times a day, only moving them around in the bator once a day. I guess some are getting turned in that process, but I am afraid there may be some heat layering inside with the eggs closest to the opening below with the light during the down time on the bulb. Unless someone can convence me that a hen has the ability to turn her eggs three times a day, I'm not doing it.

Wish I had more candling knowledge but as far as I can tell here's the status on my 20 eggs. I'm at day 14 and after candling tonight, I see what appears to be 3 clear eggs and one that I'm not sure about because it does seem to be developed more than day 7 but no quite at the level as the others. I will hang on a few more days on that one. That's the EE my friend brought in to work. So, appears that I had an 84% fertility rate tossing in two roosters for 29 hens for 6 days then settings the eggs. After seeing bulls eye’s on 5 straight for breakfast one morning I gathered and set at day 6. I know the usual allotted time is 3 weeks but I have no patience and needed to get on with it. The bator seems to be holding temps. just fine. The wiggler is very happy. Humidity has not been a problem holding if my accurite is anywhere close. The air pocket at the top of the eggs did seem a bit small, I will research that later. The humidity has been holding at 48~52. I will note that the plexy glass that I have tapped on the top as started to warp and pull the tap loose so I had to add weight on top to keep it sealed.

I read somewhere that hens turn and adjust their eggs up to 97 times a day!
