Home-made chick starter necessary!

Hi,
We've started a european thread (the link is in my signature) and there are quite a few from up your way (Holland and Germany, possibly Belgium too but can't remember) so perhaps they could help too with finding ready made stuff if it proves difficult to source all you need to diy it.

I'm sorry if the tone came across poorly, but I simply will never advocate home-mixing chick starter. It's the most important time nutritionally in a chicken's life. I understand wanting to avoid soy, although I don't feel it's as harmful as it's been made out to be (and yes, I have read quite a few studies on the subject). If it's that important to you, I'd advise importing something like mentioned earlier.

You may need a feed grinder or grain mill should you decide to mix grains and make your own, some grains are too hard for a food processor or blender to grind, and chicks need finely ground food. Good luck.

I'm not sure if it is the same in your country, but it is worth looking into if you are unsure. In the US for something to be certified organic it has to be non-GMO, so if you for example found an organic chick starter but it had corn in it, it would be non-gmo corn. I was also under the impression that it was easier to come by organic and non-gmo products in countries other than the US, perhaps I am mistaken, perhaps this has changed over the years... I know that doesn't help your search. God luck. Oh, I have gotten soy/corn free feed in the past from serenitysprouts.com I don't think they can ship to you but I have purchased birds from them as well and met them and visited the farm, I feel if you were to email them they may be willing to share some of their feed knowledge with you. Good people that love raising/breeding chickens!
