home made incubator question

I got mine from Lowes also. If you have a Lowes around, ask them for a replacement hot water heater thermostat. The only carry one and I know it will work. I will say, however, that mine LOOKS like yours.

Ok, from my experience(whatever that is worth) I have black and white wires. My white wire is wired to #2 and my black to #1. I don't know if black and brown would be the same.

If so then wouldn't the light not work at all? Just for s&g's did you wire the opposite way? When I wasn't sure we used the gfci outlet(still tripped the breaker).

but rooster - when I go to the lowes website and look at the item you suggested it says it is also rated 240.

could I just have a loose wire? I really want this to work because I think the hubby would have heart failure if I went and bought a new incubator tomorrow and the other one has 54 eggs in it already (all banty or small eggs)

It is possible that you have a loose wire... maybe when you took out the bulb something got shook loose???? But, have you tried putting the low wattage bulb BACK in??? This will help you trouble shoot whether or not there is a wiring problem or if it is something else.

yep put the 25 watt back in and it still works. I had it up to temp pretty quick the other day - before I added a fan and vent holes - but those are important features I believe...

Well, I would say then that it is not a wiring issue, but rather maybe it is the wrong thermostat. What is the temp. range on it?

My Lowes only carries one thermostat...I should say. I didn't check the internet. The one I use is NOT #26359. That one says that the temp range is 120 - 170 degrees and 240 volt. Mine is 90 - 125 degrees.

Ahh the range on mine is 90 - 120 - I got it because it looked like and sounded like the one Miss Prissy had in her picture.
